Police Make Major Drug Seizures

Government is considering the decriminalisation of small amounts of marijuana – but the police aren't letting up on weed dealers and their stash spots.

On Tuesday morning at around 11:20 the GSU descended on a residence on Oleander Street in Belize City- and found Eugene Gabourel with a bag containing 415 grams – or 14 and a half ounces of weed.

They then took him to his residence at CET Site in Lake Independence where –the real stash was hidden. The discoveries started small with a box of 74 grammes in a car in front of his house.

But, police were led to a nearby house owned by Deseree Cadle They found a large plastic hand bag under some dirty clothes on the back verandah. It contained a parcel of 3.68 kilos or 8.1 pounds of cannabis. Cadle told police that Gabourel was the one who dropped off the bag of clothes for her to wash.

Searches in a small room that is attached to the main house led to the discovery of a black kit bag containing a parcel wrapped with black plastic bag and further wrapped with saran wrap containing 6.8 pounds of cannabis.

Donna Castillo, Deseree Cadke and Eugene Gabourel were arrested and charged for two counts of Possession of a Control Drug with intent to supply to another.

Today they appeared before Chief magistrate, Anne Marie Smith. Gabourel, Castillo and Cadle were charged with various drug offences and received bail with their next adjourned date set for June 25.

And Belize City police uncovered another weed stash this morning at 7:45 – this one in the open lot behind the Majestic Alley Barracks. They found three plastic bags containing about 14 ounces of weed. Again, no one was in the area so it was labeled and deposited as "Found Property".

And in Ladyville, between 12:30 and 1:30 this afternoon, the village's Quick Response Team conducted an Anti Drug Operation in Sandhill, where a bushy lot near the residence of a known drug peddler was searched. They found 2 Plastic bags, one bag contained an amount of loose cannabis and the other bag contained several aluminum foil paper parcels, each containing cannabis. A further search of the lot led to the discovery of a dry coconut stuffed with a Black plastic bag with several aluminum foil paper parcels each containing crack cocaine. All the bags of drugs found were taken to the Ladyville Police Station and weighed. IT amounted to about 12 ounces of weed and .2 ounces of crack cocaine.

And back to the city this afternoon, on Pine Street, the GSU searched a yard in an alley way. They found a .40 caliber pistol with no visible serial number, and a magazine loaded with six (6) .40 caliber rounds.

Last week Friday, the GSU went to an open lot on Causarina Street in the Lake Independence Area where they found a black plastic bag with 625

Grams, or 22 ounces of cannabis. The GSU also found 439 grams, or about a pound on Jasmine Street.
