posted (April 13, 2015)
The weekend's first murder happened at 1:30 am on Saturday morning on Roaring Creek village. A pair of 24 year olds, Jermaine Welcome and Allan Garbutt were shot as they hung out at a home in roaring Creek. Welcome didn't make it and today Courtney Weatherburne asked his family why they believe he had been shot. She spoke with Allen's Grandmother, Maud Richards and Hadie Welcome, Jermaine's mother:

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Early Saturday morning, two best friends were having a quesadilla snack right in front of this veranda. They were standing right here just about ready to eat when they were shot at from behind.

They tried to escape the blasts but both collapsed in the yard. 24 year old Allen Garbutt fell here behind the veranda while his lifelong friend - Jermaine Welcome - laid close by, gasping for breath.

Maud Richards, Grandmother of Allen
"Like about 12:30am...I cook food on Saturdays for sale and I was preparing my food and so I went to sleep about 12:30am. The whole while my daughter and I sat down at my house and she told me she was going and I went to my bed and I put on the TV and I must have drop in a dozed. What woken me was when I heard bang, bang bang! And I jumped up frightened because I know it is gunshots. I was coming through the corridor the same time when I heard the knocking on my door, it was my 8 year old grandson. He said grandma open the door, because my mom send me because they just shot up Allen. I said oh my God, I knew it was gunshot that I have heard. I said oh my God, please help me and don't let any of them die or something."

But the family had to face that reality because Jermaine also known as "Cheese" died about half an hour after.

Maud Richards, Grandmother of Allen
"One of the police female came and asked me what was Allen name and the other guy name. She said that Allen is stable, but the other guy will not make it. A little while after, like about 5 minutes when one of my cousin came out and told me that "Cheese" is dead."

Hadie Welcome, Mother of Jermaine
"They are from pre-school days growing up into high school and now they got big - they are still together. They haven't left one another. But now, he will left him, because he is gone. I wouldn't have wanted my son to die like that."

Courtney Weatherburne
"You said that he didn't troubled anyone, he went nowhere?"

Hadie Welcome, Mother of Jermaine
"No. he doesn't trouble people like that, for him to die like that. He is a good person and everything."

According to the family, the one thing that is left, behind the torn and riddled red curtains is faith.

Maud Richards, Grandmother of Allen
"I could assure you that it is our same villagers who are doing these things - but who. You don't know where the motive is coming from. You hear this and that, but all could tell them is God sees them and God knows who did it and my God who I am serving will put an end to it. Maybe, like us, we would want this thing happen today, but God doesn't work like that - he will work in his own time. But all I know and I believe, that he (God) will put an end to it."

The Other victim Allan Garbutt - who was shot to the right hip and shoulder - is in a serious condition at the KHMH.
