Maxboro Resident Violently Killed; Decomposes In His House
posted (April 14, 2015)
Last night we told had the breaking news of the murder on the Maxboro Housing Community. Well tonight the grisly details are known about the savage slaying of 31 year old Leon Leslie. As we told you, his throat was cut and he had various stab wounds over his body. Police say he was found on the couch in a state of decomposition. 7News has learned that he was also nude, and his pants were pulled over his head. IT appears that the killer used both a machete and a knife. And then after all that they appeared to have vomited on the victim. Probably worse than all that, the discovery was made by his children after school.

That was around 5:00 pm - and this morning, 12 hours later, Dr. Mario Estradabran had to perform a post mortem on site. Leslie was buried immediately after, but the mystery of his gruesome end endures.

Today police told the media what they know:..

Supt. Hilberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"Police responded to a report of a body that was found at Maxboro. Police proceeded to the area, where upon arrival they found the lifeless body of Leon Leslie Sr., 31 years old inside the residence in a seated position on a sofa, apparently dead. The body was partly decomposed. He had stab wounds to the chest and neck area."

Mike Rudon, Ch5
"Could you tell us the condition of the area in which he was found? Was there signs of a struggle or anything?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division "I will not get to the exact details of where he was found. Like I mentioned, he had stab wounds and he was alone at the house at the time."

Reporter
"Was anything stolen?"

Supt. Hilberto Romero - OC, CIB Eastern Division
"We did not ascertain if anything was stolen. Our investigations so far is revealing that some persons of questionable character were hanging out with him at that house prior to when he was found and that is all the information that we have. We are trying to find some persons of interest that could assist in this investigation. We are not sure what happened. He lives by himself there and the body was found and we believe it had been 2-3 days since his body was there."

Today we spoke to Leslie's stepfather, Steven Staines who told 7news that he was last seen by his family on Saturday night.

Steven Staines, Stepfather of Leon Leslie Sr.
"We got home from school after 4pm-5pm and they found their dad in the living room when they open the door to enter the house. Because we live just around the lane from him - they call their grandma and told her the bad news and my son went to the house and confirmed it. We went over and view the body and he had multiple stab wounds, his throat was slit. The police did their work. Basically that was what happened."

Monica Bodden
"I understand that he was already decomposed. When was the last time you saw your stepson?"

Steven Staines, Stepfather of Leon Leslie Sr.
"Saturday night, because after I got home from work, he arrived shortly after and his mom and him had some food and were talking and running jokes and I retied to bed because I had to work early Sunday morning. So, Saturday night after 10pm I know he was still alive. Like I said from canvassing the area, we know that vehicle and stuff was at the house after 1am on Sunday morning. So, it had to have been after that period that they killed him. We didn't find him until Monday evening after minutes to 5pm when his son got home from school."

Monica Bodden
"Could you describe the injuries to us?"

Steven Staines, Stepfather of Leon Leslie Sr.
"They slit his throat twice, he had stab wounds to the upper torso and the lower abdomen. In total that I saw, he had about 7 stab wounds. He was swollen and smelling already."

Monica Bodden
"Could you tell us what part of his house he was found and could you confirmed if he was found nude?"

Steven Staines, Stepfather of Leon Leslie Sr.
"He was fully nude and he pants was thrown over his face. He was in the living room. So as you open the main entrance, he was right there in the sofa fully nude. We know he was having problems with a few people of late, but nothing that involved death threats as such. But the police are doing their investigations. We know of some stuff that is taking place, but like I said, I can't really reveal because it's in the police hands at the time and they have all the details."

A memorial service for friends and family will be held for Leslie on Thursday. Police do have a known suspect and there is a theory that the murder could have been motivated by jealousy over the affections of a female. The compelling piece of evidence is a female's identification card which was found at the murder scene. Police went looking for her at her work today at Coast Guard headquarters but she wasn't there.
