Last night residents of the Yabra area heard what they say was a machine gun spray gunfire on the Caesar Ridge home of well-known southside businesswoman Pamela Bennett Cumberbatch.
As a result, her son, 27 year-old Mark Gentle, also known as Mark Vernon, is hospitalized in a critical condition tonight, and her husband 34 year-old Calvin Cumberbatch was treated and released.
It happened at around 7:20 p.m. when both Gentle and Cumberbatch were sitting on a step in front of their house. That's when a vehicle stopped in front of the house. 2 men pulled weapons from inside, let off a barrage of gunfire, and sped off. Today, police briefed media about what information they have at this time:

"Initial investigations revealed that both men were sitting on the steps in front of their residence on Caesar Ridge Road when a vehicle passed and two men reportedly fired several shots at them causing their injuries. Cumberbatch was treated and release. Sadly, Gentle remains at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in a critical condition."

"The police are following several leads and of course they definitely have that into consideration, but at this present moment I can't tell you precisely if that is the motive. However, that may be one of the leads that police are following at this moment."
Today, we approached Pamela Bennett Cumberbatch, Mark Gentle's mother, and wife of Calvin Cumberbatch, but she said she could not speak right now.
Her home is in the middle of what is known as SSG Territory and she operates an informal micro credit business.
