Memory of Fire Haunts Family

A woman and her husband are staying at her boss's house after all their belongings were destroyed in a fire. On Thursday night at around midnight, the couple was awakened by a neighbour banging and shouting at the widow of their Mahogany Street home in Belize City. The jumped out of bad to find smoke billowing out of their house. Today we spoke to the couple and they told us that they have no idea what started the fire and are looking for answers.

"About 9:30 I gone bathe and after that I gone sleep. So, about 2 hours after that I hear somebody shouting my house is getting burn up. So I get frightened and I hurry wake up her to come out of the house and when I gone into the next room, I see the big fire high already so I can't do nothing. All that I do is close up the gas tank and take it out. We want to know how the fire was caused, because I don't see the fireman and they are telling me how it was caused. We lose 2 bed, a stereo, washing machine, all of our clothes got burned up and stove got burned up."

The couple was renting this house. All their nationality papers and household items were completely destroyed. The couple lost about $8,000 in items. They are still awaiting a report from the fire department.
