GSU Scraped The City Clean On The Weekend
posted (July 13, 2015)
That gun we told you about at the top of the newscast - the one used in the murder of 18 year old Anthony Smith was recovered by the GSU after police chased the shooter - who was forced to ditch his weapon. That's the theory at least until it is confirmed by ballistics test.

But that was only one of the guns the GSU got in a weekend of high profile seizures, busts and arrests. Later on Friday night, the GSU responded to the scene of another shooting, this one on Vernon Street near the Berger Football Field where Glen Murillo was shot in the arm. The GSU got information saying that the suspect was hiding out in the third floor of a nearby unfinished building. A search led to the discovery of a Glock 19 pistol in that building. Investigators say this gun may be a key piece of evidence in this shooting and others in the area. Ballistic tests will also be performed to determine if it was used.

And then on Saturday night - they got another gun - this time stuffed inside a speaker system in a home. This one was found on Jones Street in Belize City where the GSU forced their way in and found 20 year old Nicasio John Zuniga and 21 year old James Lyson Cacho. Police screwed open a speaker and found a plastic bag with fifteen live rounds of ammunition and a 9mm pistol with a metal magazine with 14 live rounds. Both Zuniga and Cacho were arrested and charged for Kept firearm without a gun license and 2 counts of kept ammunition without a gun license. The GSU say both are affiliates of the Complex Crew Crips Gang.

Earlier on Saturday the GSU also scored big with two other busts. The first was found in the morning in the area off Faber's Road known as "The Dyke."

The search led to the discovery of a black plastic bag stuffed with 2.1 kilos of marijuana along with a black plastic bag containing a total of eleven 9mm live rounds of ammunition.

But the biggest gun buts of the weekend was made on Saturday at midday when the GSU searched an abandoned overgrown lot on Lewis Street which turned up a .45 mm pistol with white pistol grip which contained one.45 mm live round of ammunition. The GSU says the firearm is the property of the Complex Crew Crips Gang.

And while the GSU got five firearms in six days, police also found a 38 revolver with a black taped pistol grip & eighteen live 9mm rounds. This was on Croton lane, and no one was in the area, so it was labeled as "Found Property".

And then there are also lots of weed seizures, including 895 grams, about two pound found in an abandoned lot on George Street on Friday night, another 14 ounces, just under a pound found on Haulze Street also on Friday night. And then on Saturday afternoon, the GSU stopped a Shaw's bus at mile 4 and found a knap sack with several small parcels of cannabis amounting to 5.2 pounds. As usually happens in these cases, no one claimed the bag and it was labeled as "Found Property".
