King on The Squatter Situation
posted (October 7, 2015)

So, what about his ongoing problem with the squatters on Chetumal Street and in the Foam Factory Area? As we told you, he announced a week ago that Ambassador Sarkis Abu-nahra has donated some acres of land to be distributed, and he mentioned a few other landowners, particularly the Bradley Estate, who had agreed in to give back some of the land in good faith.

As we told you last week, the owners of the Bradley Estate said that they had not arrived any such agreement. We asked King if he was mistaken, or worse, being disingenuous when he mentioned the Bradley Estate owners. Here's how he answered that:

Mark King - UDP Candidate, Lake I

"I don't know why I would go on national TV and lie but I will tell you the truth of the matter of that interview was to highlight that Mr. Abu-Nahra is giving us an amount of land; and he have squatters coming in to get those land which we will give to them. And I will not stand here on TV to tell you this when you could play back the interview and say this is what you said. The matter for the Bradley estate is that they don't know who's in control of the Bradley estate. So I spoke to a guy twice on the phone who said exactly what they said. They are willing to sell government some land. That's where we are in that negotiation. Apparently the lady who is Ms. Bradley called and said well you never talked to me. So they have to go talk to each other, I am not a part of that. Who so ever talked to me told me that they are interested in selling government some land and I am interested in trying to get government to buy that land, to give more Lake I people land. So I am dealing with my part to get the big land owners to settle with government so that we may get more land for squatters and more Belizeans and more people who want land in the Lake I area. The focus of that interview was to say that we had settled with Mr. Abu-Nahra that he is going to give us an amount of land to start to give the squatters some. And we've asked the squatters to come in. Belizean you have to be to get piece of that land and they have started to come in and do that. "

That Bradley Estate did confirm that they are willing to meet with him on the sale of 10 acres of their land if he is interested.
