Conchshell Cops
posted (October 7, 2015)

Officers from Eastern Division South were out meeting community members again today. As we have reported this is part of the police department's goal of connecting with residents and rekindling trust. Today we met with some officers who were in the Conch Shell Bay Area and they told us just how welcoming the residents are and how rewarding the initiative is.

Insp. Adrian Banner - Staff Officer, Eastern Division South

"What's happening is that we are continuing our meet and greet effort. What we want to do is meet all the communities in eastern division south and in the entire Belize; because what is happening on eastern division south also happens on north. Our effort to try and bridge the gap between the community and the police so that they become more familiar and appreciated and they could share their views and ideas with us as how we can improve in assisting them as we do our job."

"What we plan to do is to start again next week to revisit these areas we are visiting and to get a report card on what we have been doing so far to see if the effort has been working and additional information that they would like to assist us in to improve on what we have done so far."

"We have noticed that the community are more open and they are always telling us we need to see you continue to do this; the more you do this then we become more open, they'll give us more information. Officer commanding eastern division south can contest to getting additional since we have started this continued weekly effort. So it's very good, it's working for us and we will continue to do it."

There were about 50 officers out today. The offices plan on heading back out to these same communities for follow up visits.
