BPP Picking Up Candidates
posted (October 14, 2015)

For the past two days in the news – you've seen a whole lot of what the UDP and PUP are doing, but there's also a third party – and coming up to Nomination day on October the 16th , they're trying to gain critical mass by fielding 31 candidates, or a figure that's pretty close to it. Today they got to 24, when the BPP presented 7 new candidates to the public at a press conference at the Belize Institute of Management. 7News was there:..

Dr. Javier Reyes - BPP Candidate, OW East

"We need to address the serious existing problems in the health sector, in education and in learning institutions to name a few."

Phillip De La Fuente - BPP Candidate, OW Central

"My decision to run on the green team was made because when they brought out their initial ideas and manifestos, those were very similar to what I had when I wanted to run for the UDP again. But then they didn't want me to run for the UDP; they denied it, so I said well, this party is more along the lines that I personally would like to run."

Nedal Mclaren - BPP Candidate, Port Loyola

"I da from the hood and I am no politician, I'm a rebel, I'm a revolutionary, I'm looking for change. One of the reasons why I decided to join these people is because when you look at all these brothers, these ancestors; you see humble people who are looking for changes. I'm looking for the same changes I am looking for that I know can put us in one big package as a better Belize."

Anthony Petillo - BPP Candidate, Dangriga

"Before any major event, always the national anthem being played and it alludes to pride, stand for your country. And that's the reason why all of us are here now standing for our country."

Richard McCauley - BPP Candidate, Lake Independence

"Who's afraid to go up against two gentlemen; I'm not afraid. And I decided to do this for my community and my country. There's a lot that need to be changed."

Rollin Powery - BPP Candidate, Fort George

"And I ask that we come together everyone and make history this November 4th, history; a third party. You give UDP 17 years, you give PUP 17 years. Give BPP 17 years to fix Belize."

Javier Molina - BPP Candidate, Belize Rural Central

"It's something I have been passionate about my country, about Belize, about the people; and sitting on the side lines, you can't do much. You can holler, you can shout but there is only so much you can do. So I really sat down, prayed about it, thought about it and I know that I love this country so much. And all of us love this country so much. I stepped up, I'm putting myself out there, and I'm doing my part; now it's up to the Belizean people to do theirs."

The party says it may still have some last minute surprises on nomination day – which is Friday October 16th.
