Rumors of Michael Ashcroft having a serious illness have been percolating in Belize for weeks, but today it was confirmed by the British press that he was quote, "in an 18 day fight for his life." News of his illness became known when he was a no show last night in the UK at the launch of his new book, a scathing, unauthorized biography of British Prime Minister David Cameron.
The reports say he, quote, "suffered a 'life-threatening' illness…facing septic shock, liver and kidney failure."
The report said that Ashcroft had to be rushed by air ambulance from the Turks and Caicos islands to the Cleveland Clinic in Ohio on September 22nd. THE UK GUARDIAN reports that he also had internal bleeding from a leaking intestinal lesion.
Ashcroft spent 18 days in intensive care when, press reports say, he experienced acute fluctuations in blood pressure. Ashcroft is now reported to be in a stable condition.
