Mayor Bradley Takes The High Road Out
posted (November 13, 2015)
The general elections hysteria has subsided and by now the new ministers and area representatives have settled into their elected positions while others have resumed the role they had before.

Darrell Bradley is one of them who has gone back to his office at City Hall. His is one of the more notable defeats in the general election, because Bradley has literally transformed Belize City. But all that cachet and all those millions spent did not translate into a general elections victory. Today we caught up with Bradley at another event to get his reaction on the election results. He was very humble - congratulating and offering his support to Caribbean Shores area representative Kareem Musa.

"In a previous interview with my colleague Daniel Ortiz, you were convinced that you were going to win. You weren't even entertaining the thought of defeat. Tell us your feedback on your results. You lost I think by 56 votes more or less. Tell us what this shows."

"Well I mean its politics and in politics there is a winner and there is somebody who's not the winner and you go on. I have been beset by challenged in the past and it's something that you go on. I am a person who is a fervent believer in service. I ran for mayor because I wanted to be of service to my community. I continue to be of service to this city and I'll continue to support and to be of service o the people of Caribbean Shores and the people of the United Democratic Party. Elections are won and decided on by the people. The people give their vote and they choose who they want to represent them. I believe that we ran a good campaign. I believe that we did a tremendous amount of work for the people of this city and the people of Caribbean Shores. But at the end of the day it's the votes that counts. So I cannot be upset about that. You move on and I would want to again, congratulates Kareem. I think that he is a professional colleague. We've work on cases before. I think that he has a lot to offer to the people of Caribbean Shores. He is their representative now and in whatever way that I can be a support to the people of Caribbean Shores, even through him as their leader - I have to do that. Because the people are the ultimate ones who make a decision."

Darrell Bradley got 1,721 votes and PUP Kareem Musa got 1,777 votes. Now what's the future look like for Bradley? Will he seek re-election as city mayor in the next elections? And does he have an eye on the soon to be vacant position for UDP party leader? Bradley said that he has moved on from the elections and that his main focus right now is serving as mayor.

"It's very difficult to speculate about a lot of those things. I've always said that a leader is a person of service. You can be a blessing to others as a leader in multiple capacities. I have felt that I've done a good job as mayor. I think that the average person regardless of political affiliation will appreciate that is a fair statement and whatever the future holds, it is in God's hands. It is in the people's hands. I can't predict what will happen in the future, because I don't know. So you go on. It's something that you are going to ask me like what does this do, what does that do - I don't know. I don't think the people knows. What you do is that you continue to work and I will continue to work. This morning I was out here supporting the Salvation Army. I have several other ongoing projects going on this week. We are doing a couple major initiatives at the City Council like continuing to work on trade license reform. We are trying to finalize our collective bargaining agreement. We have a little bit more time since the election is over. So you continue to work and you continue to be in the public light. Politics is something that I love. I love to be of service and it's something which I would want to continue if God's willing and if the people are willing. So that I can't really speculate in terms of what's going to happen in the future, simply because I don't know. But I am saying that Darrell Bradley is here and Darrell Bradley will continue to be of service to the city and to the country."

Bradley said he will be handing out thank you cards to people who have assisted him - we don't expect that his predecessor Santi Castillo will be on that mailing list.
