The house of representative meets on Friday for its first business session in this new term. That means the Senate will meet next week – and leader of opposition business Lisa Shoman yesterday put forward a motion which is sure to be controversial. She wants the Senate to conduct an enquiry into the circumstances under which fugitive David Nanes Schnitzer, known in Belize as David Banes, fraudulently obtained nationality. And, of course that's just the start: Shoman also wants the Senate probe to look into all matters relating to corruption and mismanagement at the Department of Immigration.

Shoman tried a similar motion with the immigration department two years ago, but the motion was defeated
