Students from all over the country were at the Belize High School Auditorium for the 20th Crystal Spelling Bee for the Hearing Impaired. 5 juniors and 6 seniors competed in several rounds to come out victorious but in the end there were only 3 winners for each category. The coordinator Juanita Cadle told us that apart from this Finger Spelling Bee being an educational experience for the kids, it's also a means by which the community can learn to accept and appreciate these talented kids.
As you saw in the footage, the Junior winners are Myline Shish, Daniel Chun and Julian Assi - all from the Cayo Deaf Institute. 1st place Junior and senior receive a kindle and a number of school supplies.
