Teen Shot in the Crossfire of Street Violence
posted (January 26, 2007)
Two males are lucky to be alive tonight after they were shot last night on Neal's Penn Road. 14-year-old Joshua Palacio and 24-year-old Frank Vasquez were near their homes when they were injured. Vasquez may have been the target, but, the teenaged Palacio was an innocent victim hit in the crossfire of street violence. Keith Swift found out more.

Keith Swift Reporting,
Last night Frank Vasquez was hanging out with friends in front of his home here on Neal Penn Road when a gunman opened fire on the group from one hundred yards away. The gunman fired at least seven shots, first there was two and then five. One of those hit the 24-year-old Vasquez in his left buttocks.

Frank Vasquez, Shooting Victim
"He stayed like about a hundred yards away and started to shoot towards my old lady's shop. I was in front of the shop, me and my cousin, but he didn't get shot - only me get shot."

And while Vasquez was hit in the buttocks, 14-year-old Joshua Palacio was hit in his chest area. He was still under anesthesia and couldn't speak to us today but witnesses confirm that he was walking home and was simply in the wrong place at the wrong time. That leaves us with Frank Vasquez. He told us that he didn't know who shot him and more importantly he doesn't know why.

Frank Vasquez,
"I don't know who shot me but the Good Lord knows. I will just leave it in the Good Lord's hands."

Keith Swift,
You said you saw a guy with a t-shirt, did you recognize him?

Frank Vasquez,
"No, only the shirt and he had his hat over his head. All I have to say is that the Good Lord is with me because this is not the first time I had gotten shot. I was shot before...that one was on Antelope Extension, the first shot I had gotten."

Keith Swift,
Do you believe someone wants you dead?

Frank Vasquez,
"Well that looks like the motive."

And if it is past that is coming back to haunt him - Frank he is past that.

Frank Vasquez,
"I have given up those days. I have two sons who I have to take care of and I don't 'back beef, I am not into that world again."

Both Palacio and Vasquez are still hospitalized. Police report that they found no expended shells on the scene. A 22 year old suspect has been detained but at news time, charges were still pending.
