An Absence Doesn’t Mean an Absence Of Interest
posted (December 16, 2015)

So now if there is no animosity between Belizean and Guatemalan soldiers then why wasn't there any Guatemalan official at the ground breaking ceremony last week Wednesday? Is this a sign that they aren't on the same page as it relates to this base? General Jones told us that although they weren't present for the ceremony, they expressed their willingness to cooperate and work together to safeguard the river.

Brig. Gen. David Jones - Commander, BDF

"No, I don't see it as a protest and even though and even though the ground breaking was there, I did go over to the median line between Belize and Guatemala on that same day and the Colonial that was there, who is in charge of the marines there is one of the same officers that I have met before in previous discussions in regards to a protocol in the Sarstoon. We met at the middle of the river and we exchange pleasantries and we expressed, that yes it's the ground breaking today and we intend to start working together with them."
