Kia Found Shot-Up Near Caledonia, Driver Missing
posted (January 6, 2016)

On Monday we told you about the major drug bust in Orange Walk where police nabbed 183 pounds of compressed marijuana. The drugs have a street value of more than a quarter million dollars, and the packages were imprinted with a "J" – which police believe is the sign of a Mexican cartel.

Now, the historical trend is that whenever a large and valuable amount of drugs ends up in the wrong hands, that's when people start disappearing. It's happened plenty of times on San Pedro – and some are wondering whether that's what happened this morning when a Caledonia villager disappeared. Luis Alcoser's vehicle, a recently acquired Kia Sportage was found riddled with bullet holes on the road to his village this morning – and tonight – his family doesn't know where he is. Emanuel Pech went looking for answers:….

This solitary candle burned at the house of Alcoser, a light to hopefully guide their son back home. It was set as an offering to the Virgin Mary after the grim news of their son's disappearance reached them around 4:00 in the morning.

"Do you know of what happened?"

Mother of Missing Person

"Honestly I don't know. My son goes out and he doesn't tell me where he goes. But I already got used to it since he is 31 years old. He goes and comes back and doesn't tell me where he was. Sometimes when I wake up he's already gone and when I see he brings back things for the little shop. But last night I was surprised when he didn't come back."

That is because, sometime between the hours of 12 am and 4 am this morning, Luis Alcoser was reportedly ambushed.

Erminio Alcoser- Father of Missing Man

"A guy reached there in the morning, blowing his horn. I got up wondering what it was. I wasn't going to work today so I was wondering what he wanted. When I came out he told me, "That Kia that is at the junction of Buena Vista is for your son?" I told him, "Yes, he just bought it." "I found his license in there" he told me. He showed me his license and I immediately came here and saw the vehicle like this."

The vehicle was found with four apparent bullet holes- three to the windshield and one to the driver's side of the vehicle. Oddly enough, authorities could not find any blood stains inside or around the vehicle. The only other clue that the scene revealed were these tire marks as if someone reversed near the area.

"I stayed here waiting for the police since I saw some bullet holes. That is exactly what I saw and since then I haven't seen my son."

Emanuel Pech

"What do you think happened to him?"

Mother of Missing Person

"Well maybe they've killed him but I don't know."

Police don't have much information about the last whereabouts of Alcoser, but it is believed that he was coming from the direction of the main road and turning right towards Caledonia when he came upon his armed assailants.

If this was a case of getting involved with the wrong people, his family wouldn't know because, according to them, he was a man that kept to himself.

Erminio Alcoser- Father of Missing Person
"If he is getting involved in bad things I don't know because he doesn't tell me anything. That's the truth because he doesn't come and say dad I'm doing so and so. When he operated a taxi well I knew he what he was doing but now I don't know what he does."

Mother of Missing Person
"Honestly sometimes I tried speaking to him but he wouldn't tell me anything. For God's sake he didn't tell me anything."

And just like that Luis Alcoser disappeared leaving behind a vehicle riddled with bullets, a family fearing for their lives and a case drenched in mystery; reporting for 7 news, Emanuel Pech.

Up to this evening, there still had been no word of Alcoser's whereabouts.

Our sources say that the weed from the bust would normally be smuggled into the country monthly and it would supply Belize city, San Pedro and Placentia. Sources also tell us that Interpol is in Belize looking at the case as well because drugs have been turning up in Texas also bearing the "J" logo.
