A Love Triangle Turns To Murder In Indian Church
posted (January 18, 2016)
Police in Orange Walk recorded their first murder of the year this weekend when Guatemalan man from the village of Indian Church was viciously chopped to death. The village describes the victim as a respectable man, in fact he was to end his term this as the vice chairman of the village this year. So who would want him dead? Emanuel Pech found out that Francisco Arevalo was on the killing side of a love triangle.

The relative peace of the Village of Indian Church was shattered when the naked, mutilated body of the Francisco Arrevalo was discovered on the side of this empty building on Sunday morning. It is a violent end for this 51 year old Guatemalan National, who moved to Belize several years ago and lived his last few years as the vice chairman of the community.

"He was a man who never trouble anyone. He was a man who never go out of his house. He does not drink. We are like what happened to him. It's difficult for the family. He was vice chairman. He helped anyone who wanted help. He would do it and never say no. All the villages are really sad of his death."

Emanuel Pech
"What do you know of the situation? What happened?"

Elser Aguilar - Nephew
"They say that it was lady that bring him in the night with lies and then another man came back of them with a machete. That's what they say. We don't have all the information right now."

Blood smeared on the floor and the walls of this empty building are the telltale signs of a violent struggle that is said to have taken place in the wee hours of Sunday morning.

ASP Selwyn Tillett- O. C. Orange Walk
"At 10:30am, Orange walk police visited Indian Church Village located in Orange Walk District, where in some bushes next to an unfinished cement house, which is located as you entered the village, a nude body of a male Hispanic person identified to be Francisco Arrevalo, 51 years old Guatemalan of Indian Church Village was seen lying face down with a chop wound to the back of his head and neck and his left hand was partially severed."

No one heard the commotion because everyone was at a village party on the other side of the Indian. So why was Arrevalo alone in this empty building? Well investigators believe he was lured there by a Guatemalan woman who he'd been having an intimate relationship with. It's a love triangle that ended in a cold bloody murder.

ASP Selwyn Tillett- O. C. Orange Walk
"Initial investigation revealed that Arrevalo received a phone call about 9am by a female who lured him into the area where the body was found. The deceased was met by another male person of Salvadoran national, who apparently inflicted chop wounds to the deceased causing his death. Police responded and as a result received the deceased phone number with a female of San Felipe Village who is presently detained pending charges."

"What was the motive behind this murder?"

"It seems it was a love affair."

Elser Aguilar - Nephew
"She just came to Belize. She was living in the village about 3 months and then he came, he knew her and took her to San Felipe and from there I don't know what happened. Somebody say the lady was having a relationship with my uncle. But I don't know anything about that. I can't say anything more."

Today, family members and residents prepared the burying ground for when the post mortem examination is concluded and the body is returned to them. Reporting for 7 news Emanuel Pech.

Police have a main suspect who is being sought tonight. He is 58 year old SALVADOREAN national Juan Carlos Lopez Gutierrez, known as Chile. Police say Gutierrez poses a risk of fleeing the country. Anyone seeing him is asked to call the nearest police Station at 322-2022 or 911.
