MCC As A Parking Lot
posted (February 26, 2016)
The National Sports Council has entered a lease agreement with the Management of the Princess Ramada Hotel and Casino to use a portion of the MCC Grounds as parking space for its customers. Now, if you're wondering why the Sports Council is making such a decision, we were too. After all, the MCC is one of the premier football fields in the country.

Today, we caught up with both the management of the Hotel, as well as the Council, and they told us that while it appears to be an imprudent decision, it's in the interest of the two parties:

Ritchell Dominguez, Dir., National Sports Council
"We have been looking at our facilities, I say again and what happen is that we ask Princess to partner with us in making the place much safer and much more user-friendly. Because what happen is that Princess will be using it at night and we will be using it if we have a match during the day. Because what happen is that the land is sitting down. Princess is going to finance us to use the parking lot - we are lending it to them so that they will use it in the times that we are not using the parking lot and they will build the parking lot for us. So it's just a partnering with Princess and getting this project up and running. Even with us just charging the fee for them to use the field for different matches, it doesn't match up to keep the facility the way we would want to see the facility kept. Because if we look around everything looks rundown and beat out. But how do we move from here to get the facility to where we want it to be and that is why we partnered with Princess so that we can start by building the parking lot and then it will give a different look at the place and then we moved on with the money that they are paying us to paint up the place and get the lights in that we so need and desire for this place."

Mike Rudon, Ch 5
"Have you think about that money, I think its $2,500 a month? Is that the figure? That money will be used solely for the upkeep of the MCC which needs it desperately?"

Ritchell Dominguez, Dir., National Sports Council
"That's right. If you look at the MCC, it needs lights right now. The pipes that we just put in, it's different that the facility needs, is what we are going to take that money and use it for. It's not that anything is going on with Princess, we are giving it to them or anything like that. It's just that they have looked at it and see where both parties can benefit off this project."

Cenk Tanir, GM, Princess Casino Belize
"I am willing to both sides get the benefit. We renovate the here and my customers have the parking lots. If after 5 years, if they are willing to sign contract, I am ready here. Princess never changes its owners, only we go to Ramada. Ramada is a franchising and we rent the hotel, but the owner of the building and the properties are still the same company. So we are willing to a 50 years more here."

This parking facility inside the MCC Grounds is being planned to accommodate parking for up to 80 cars.
