Que Viva Vendors
posted (April 22, 2016)
And in news that is completely unrelated to the Guatemalan situation, on Wednesday, the Belize City Council gave a couple of South Side Food Vendors a tent. If you can recall, last week, Darrel Grant and his wife Ishtar Williams, a young couple from West Collet Canal, were victimized by some Tourism police officers who forced them to take down their shed. This was done with no authority from the police department nor from the Belize City Council. It became a problem when a neighbor, who is also a special constable complained that they were conducting their business too close to his property. So he seems to have taken it upon himself to order them to take it down. But that's where he stepped out of line. The City Council made their own investigation into the matter and found out that even the community praised them for their positive impact on the children in the area. So after some discussions, on Wednesday they delivered the promised tent.
