Handful Protests Against Hon. Castillo
posted (June 2, 2016)
Since John Saldivar's defeat at the Deputy Party leadership convention last Sunday, there has been a wave of unrest within the UDP. That's because Hon. Patrick Faber won, despite having little support from his cabinet colleagues, each of whom commanded a total of 15 delegates. But many of those delegates secretly defected and voted for Faber while their minister of area rep or standard bearer was supporting Saldivar. That's politics, but Belize Rural central UDP Ingrid Hernandez says she was fired because of this accusation.

So today a handful of Ladyville protestors came out with placards addressed to Hon. Beverly Castillo. Some of them read "You got to go!" The plan was to protest in front of the State Minister's office in Ladyville but they did not get a permit, and so were stopped by police. However their spirits of defiance remained intact.

Beverly Perez, Protester
"Ingrid is a hard working person. She is out in the rain, sun hot, shine - everything and at the end of the day, because she begged them - all the delegates of Ladyville to go and vote for John Saldivar, they didn't do it. They voted for Patrick Faber and that is the reason why she fired Ingrid and Elena. If the people wanted John Saldivar, you don't think John Saldivar would be the deputy? They want Patrick Faber for deputy prime minister. That is why she was fired. This is total simpleness."

"What are you guys asking for?"

Beverly Perez, Protester
"What we are asking for - she got to go. She came here with a potified face and afterwards she is all for herself. People that campaigned for her ask them her to get a job. She told one of the campaigners to bring her diploma or degree or what she have. That's total stupidness."

Emanuel Pech
"You guys campaigned for her as well?"

Beverly Perez, Protester
"All of us here are campaigners."

We spoke with Beverly Castillo via phone today, but she declined an interview. The only thing she would tell us about the allegation is, quote "absolutely not true".
