Edward Broaster, Movie Director?
posted (June 2, 2016)
And we'll close shortly with the infant's showcase of the festival of the arts, but first to another kind of artistic creation…can you say Edward Broaster, movie director? Well, the Rural area's top cop has directed his first short film - he also wrote and produced it. Now don't get it wrong, it's not coming to a theater near you - after all , the entire thing was shot on cell phones. But it is a compelling narrative all too familiar to law enforcers: a young child recruited by gangs to smuggle drugs. In this case it's between Ladyville and Belize City - and the victim is a child who is enticed to smuggle weed in their schoolbag because…who would search a child? Broaster told us it's very much based on a true story:...

ACP. Edward Broaster, OC, Eastern Division Rural
"This story is a true story that was related to us by a parent and we felt compelled, because of being touch by the story that we need to share this story with the public and like I said we want to bring awareness to the parents out there that this might be your child, so you need to take care and look out for your children."

Jules Vasquez
"So you are saying that there is an actual case when a young child, in this case in the movie, the child is 11 years old, was recruited for the trafficking of drugs between Ladyville and Belize City?"

ACP. Edward Broaster, OC, Eastern Division Rural
"Yes."

Jules Vasquez
"Is that for real?"

ACP. Edward Broaster, OC, Eastern Division Rural
"That is for real. That is exactly what happened. There is another side to their children that they don't know about and we just wanted to bring to light to the screen the perils of children being left unattended."

The short film will premiere on Channel 7 next week, and Broaster will make it available to all schools and community workers as an instructional aid to children and parents. It is, he says, the first in a series of short films he hopes to make for the police.
