Bush Fires Abound, Beware
posted (June 3, 2016)
It's been a long dry season, and coming unto the end of the first week of June, the parched earth is giving rise to bush fires everywhere.

And it's getting close to areas of habitation. In fact, just last night in Ladyville, this huge fire came right to the roadside across from the Presidente Beer warehouse near Marage Road. 7 Scrap vehicles left on the roadside were burnt.

But, the real risk with bush fires is not so much to property as it is to public health. The Ministry of Health sent out an advisory earlier this week warning that if there are bush fires in your area, you can experience over exposure to smoke.

The public health notice warns that the smoke is made up of tiny particles and gases and when these are inhaled, they can cause asthma attacks, worsen chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and trigger chest pain in those with heart disease. The ministry warns that sustained exposure can also cause hat stroke, and respiratory distress which are medical emergencies.
