posted (June 6, 2016)
Guilty of double murder! That's what the judge said today for 44 year old Ervin Reneau - who was accused of killing 39 year old businessman David Longsworth and 42 year old security guard Edgar Ayala.

Forty-four year old Ervin Reneau, was given 2 life sentences today by Justice Adolph Lucas after he was found guilty of the murder of 39 year old businessman David Longsworth and 42 year old security guard Edgar Ayala.

In the trial without jury Justice Lucas was convinced by the case presented by prosecutors Shanice Lovell, Sherigne Rodriguez and Janelle Tillett. They presented evidence which showed that shortly after 6 p.m. on November 30, 2010, at Texaco Gas Station, located at mile 2 on the Northern Highway, Reneau arrived at the gas station in a taxi and shot Ayala, then Longsworth who was in his car with his wife and their 6 year old son.

Three eyewitnesses, including Longsworth's wife, Ursula, gas attendant William Henry and the cashier, Antonia Medina Usher testified that they saw when Reneau shot Ayala and Longsworth.

Reneau had given the police a caution statement in which he said he shot Ayala because he thought that Ayala was going for his gun and he shot Longsworth because of a drug deal that had gone sour. The statement was admitted into evidence. Reneau had given his girlfriend the gun he used to kill Ayala and Longsworth and he had told her to hide it. But instead she handed it over to police and it was used as an exhibit. In his testimony, Reneau and denied that he committed the offences. He said he went to the gas station to withdraw money from the ATM.

Reneau was represented by attorney Alifa Elrington.
