16 year old Tyrese Carcamo is tonight in a critical condition at the KHMH following a traffic accident on the George Price Highway. It happened sometime after 6 yesterday evening. Caracamo was riding his bicycle somewhere near mile 8 and a half on the George Price Highway, and was heading in the direction of Belize City when a taxi driver heading in the same direction collided into him. The head of the 16 year old minor crashed into the windshield of the vehicle which caused him severe head injuries. Police along with BERT personnel were at the scene shortly thereafter to attend to the victim and process the scene. Station Manager at Hattieville Police station Sergeant Keith Clarke told us what the investigations are revealing so far.

"Mr. Castellanos claim that as he was about to drive past this male person, he veered unto the highway and in order to try and avoid hitting the male person, Mr. Castellanos stated that he was forced to steer his car unto the opposite side of the highway. However, the front passenger side bumper of his car collided into the male person on his bicycle resulting in the male person being tossed unto the windshield of Mr. Castellanos' vehicle and thereafter unto the highway. Mr. Castellanos came to a stop and rendered assistance as best as he could until the arrival of the Hattieville police."

"From doing your own investigations, does Mr. Castellanos', the driver of the vehicle, story match up?"

"Actually preliminary investigation is showing that what Mr. Castellanos is telling us is basically the truth. He's being very cooperative, it seems as if it was simply just an accident. However in cases like this, he more than likely will be charged and the incident will be vetted in the court. Blood samples were taken from him as well as from the minor victim."

"Is there any indication that alcohol had played a factor in this accident?"

"Well we can't say for sure, however, the reasons why blood sample was taken is to try and determine this."
Castellanos has since been served with a notice of intended prosecution. Again police remind drivers and cyclist who use the highway to be cautious especially during at night.
