Father of Two Murdered On Independence Day
posted (September 22, 2016)
An Independence day murder has left 2 young kids fatherless. 27 year old Jesu Mai was stabbed three times in front of the Blue Angels night club. He had gone out to celebrate after the fireworks but it seems he just didn't know when to quit. Here Mai's story.

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Jesus Mai had been working with these men on this clinic for about 6 weeks. Mai was grouting the tiles on this side of the wall, but today his coworkers had to finish it for him.

That's because he was stabbed to death in front of Blue Angels Night Club yesterday morning.

Supt. Richard Rosado, OC, San Ignacio
"Initial investigation reveal that the deceased was socializing at a local night club on Hudson Street and sometime after exiting the night club he was engaged in a misunderstanding with another male individual who subsequently inflicted the stab wounds on Mr. Jesus Mai .The deceased subsequently ran and collapsed on King Street. Police are still trying to ascertain a motive but we do know alcohol may have been a contributing factor."

Mai's older brother says he doesn't know why anyone would want his brother dead but he also admitted that his drinking does sometimes get the better of him.

Norman Mai, Older Brother
"My brother is, well who ever knows, he is a very nice guy, friendly, he likes to joke around, but the only thing is that when he starts to drink that is when he loses his mind , he becomes a totally different person when he drinks but otherwise, he is a very nice guy."

But regardless of Mai's drinking, one of his cousins told us that Mai's murder could have been prevented if he only had listened to him.

VOICE OF: Elton Tzib, Supervisor/Cousin
"Tuesday evening him and I were hanging out but right after the fireworks he decided to go another way and I told him "let's go home, let's go , you can stay at my house" but he said "no, I'll come back Prim, I'll come back, because he normally calls us Prim, "I'll come back he says" and I told him "Prim, stay, go take a shower and sleep but he was kind of stubborn so he left. So he left around 1:00-1:30 in the morning. So I told him when you come back knock at my door and I will open the door so you can come back and sleep."

But Tzib never heard Mai's knock at the door, instead he got the tragic news of Mai's murder.

Elton Tzib, Supervisor/Cousin
"He did a lot of good works here with me and like I said to hear."

Sadness and heart break: things the family is now left to grapple with.

Courtney Weatherburne, 7News
"How will you remember your brother, what memories you will have and how difficult it is and will continue to be for the family?"

Norman Mai, Older Brother
"I don't know, I will never forget what happened to him, I will always keep him in my heart and try to be strong."

Police are looking for the suspect who they believe might have been injured in the bar brawl.

Mai had lived on San Pedro for 10 years and had just moved to San Antonio a couple months ago. He leaves behind a 7 year old son and a 2 year old daughter.
