Now the one common detail in these stories is alcohol. We have reported on several murders in the west fueled by drunkenness, in fact there have been numerous stabbing deaths in front of that same Blue Angels Night Club. But not only Blue Angels, there is also the Pasadita Bar on the Spanish Lookout road where there have been 2 murders in 4 months this year. Cayo Police told us how they are dealing with this problem.

"I would like to say that 90% of our incidents are results of alcohol and bar related incidents. Presently we are working with the liquor licensing board and the town council to see how we can address these factors that are contributing to violence within the liquor establishment. Together we are looking at the concentration of bars within the community, we're looking at the issuance of extension to night clubs and the conditions stipulated therein. We're also looking at the issuance of liquor license with stipulated condition in particular the adherence to the intoxicating liquor license amendment act number 4 of 2006, in respect to security guards. We're also looking another enforcement strategy that we do not want to disclose at this moment."
Police say they are also looking into the liquor licensing extensions for bar and club owners.
