Father of Three Killed In Capital
posted (September 26, 2016)
The decomposed body of 33-year-old BWS worker Rudolph Selgado was found yesterday morning after 12:00. Selgado went missing on Independence Day and his family along with his co-workers went searching for him. They went as far as they could go but couldn't find him until Sunday morning when they got a call that his mutilated body had been found on valley of Peace Road. Courtney Weatherburne has the story.

"It's very hard, it's hard, very hard to explain, it's a shock."

Courtney Weatherburne reporting
Rudolph Williams Sr. and his daughter stare at their loved one's grave site in disbelief. A heap of loose dirt and a cinder block vase is all the family has left at the cemetery.

Rudolph Selgado went missing on Independence Day. His common law wife told us that she was working that day and he had taken the kids to the fair in Belmopan. They met up at the house in the evening.

VOICE OF: Kayla Spencer, Common Law Wife
"At around 6:30 he came home and opened the door for me, along with my 3 kids, all of them came home. I was on my step waiting with me neighbor. My boyfriend came inside and he said 'Babe I brought you a BBQ' and I said 'okay thanks' and he was standing there around the table, we had a little talk, he said 'I will start work on weekends at the BWS grounds' and he was excited about that."

After that brief table talk, Selgado left to meet up with some friends in Belmopan. Spencer told us that she didn't hear from Selgado until later that night when he called her.

Kayla Spencer, Common Law Wife
"When I got a call it was 11:05, he called from another number and told me he was with a friend and his friend grabbed the phone and said 'haggy says to come get him'. I told him I do not have a ride then he said 'don't worry about it babe, I will walk'. Then he called back again and he said 'I am coming home', then he called back a third time and said 'babe I love you'."

Those were the last words she heard him say. Selgado never went home that Independence night. Spencer told us she got worried and called his family and went looking for him around Belmopan but she didn't find him, that's when she formed her search party.

Kayla Spencer, Common Law Wife
"Friday afternoon we did a search from More Tomorrow to the Cawich Bridge, but we were only in the water, we were going around, bumping into each other, we were searching Friday and Saturday."

The search party failed as well and it is only until Sunday morning that Selgado's body was found in the bush on the Valley of Peace Road.

Kayla Spencer, Common Law Wife
"Ms. Jenkins called me and said they found a body so I called up his friends from BWS, and they brought 2 trucks privately and we went to Valley of Peace. When we went to Valley of Peace, the officers told us we could not see the body, 4 officers were there at the scene and we smelled something."

That was the smell coming from Selgado's decomposed body. Selgado face was bludgeoned, his throat was slashed and he was chopped on his chest and on the back of his head. It was a brutal murder, one that reports say was as a result of some misunderstanding his friends had with some other men on Independence Day. The narrative is that Selgado was defending one of his friends and the men came after him. But regardless of what the circumstance or the motive was, Selgado better known as "Haggy" or "Cito" will be missed and remembered by everyone.

Kayla Spencer, Common Law Wife
"He was a person who never fools with anyone, he was work to home, if I wanted to go out he was always willing, he took care of us, he loved his kids, his baby who is 3 years old was his heart, he means the world to him. He always said if I go anywhere, I will take my baby with, he said 'no one else will take care of my baby, only me'. He was loving father."

Rudolph Williams Sr., Father
"My first son, Rudolph Jr. humble, respectable guy. I miss my son bad... It's sad."

Belmopan police told us they would give us an interview at 1:30 this afternoon but they never did so we do not have any official response from police on this murder other than a police report. While we were waiting at the station the common law wife was taken in for questioning along with a number of men.
