PUP Motion Was Defeated

PUP's Lead Senator, Eamon Courtenay got his opportunity to make his presentation before the division was called for. Instead of moving his own motion, which was already prepared, he decided to propose amendments to Ashley Rocke's motion, to ensure that while they do not agree on the composition, the objective of a comprehensive Senate Investigation will take place. Here he is making the point that Government should have only one Senator on the committee to investigate the Immigration Audit Reports:

After all members of the Senate spoke on the two motions, Acting President Carla Barnett temporarily suspended the Senate meeting. This was to allow for the senators to have an informal discussion amongst themselves about the changes Courtenay proposed. When they returned, there was still the dispute about the composition of the Committee. As we told you, Courtenay's motion recommended only 1 Government Senator, to firewall against Government influence, and possible misdirection of the Senate Probe. When his configuration was voted on, it was defeated. The Senate then took a vote on Rocke's Government friendly configuration, and that's when a division was called for. Here's how it went:
