Today, one of those fishermen, Benigno Cob, from Copper Bank in the Corozal district, appeared in court. Cob pled not guilty to the charge of possession of 314 out of season conch, stating that the conch the Coast Guard and Fisheries Department found were about thirty yards away from his boat when he was searched. The cook of the boat, Felix Copo, who was present when Cob was arrested, stated in court that Cob was wrongfully charged. He also suggested that the authorities were known to take bribes.
