He’s been CEO of the Free Zone for 8 years, but Raul Rosado says he’s moving on – and tonight, there are many murmurs about the terms of his sudden departure. 

Rosado told us today that he has been looking at business opportunities, specifically one in the free zone for the import and export in clothing, accessories and footwear.  He said he didn’t want to create a conflict of interest so he stepped down, in consultation with Free Zone Chamber of Commerce and the Board of Directors.  Rosado conceded that the Zone’s Chamber of Commerce was quote, “a little worried about the conflict of interestâ€￾, so he agreed to resign.

But what about reports that he had been intercepted with huge amounts of undeclared cash? Those were all over Facebook yesterday and Rosado says the rumour about being caught with 1.5 million us dollars in Southern Belize is false, and the report about undeclared money at the PGIA, is about another Rosado not related to him.

He said his last act as CEO was to sign the contract for the infrastructure project at the zone and he has demitted office. Â  He said he was paid all his salaries and there is, quote, “no reason for me to be running away.â€￾
