No Air Ambulance Yet For Severely Burned Kids
posted (October 6, 2016)
Tonight, burn victims 4 year old Ian Sambula-Carr and 8-year-old Empress Hamilton are in critical condition awaiting an urgent air ambulance flight to Shriner's Children's Hospital. As we've reported the two children received second and third degree burns to 90% of their bodies when their family home on Aloe Vera Street burned down on Tuesday night. Their cousin, 11-year-old Aaron Gabourel perished in the fire. Aaron was a special needs child who attended Stella Maris school and today the Belizean Assembly for Persons with Diverse Abilities sent out a release supporting his mother, Carolyn Hamilton and expressing, quote, "anger, at the injustice and lack of compassion to those marginalized peoples who are most in need." End quote. The group says, quote, "This is a real human disaster and we are responsible to address this and others."

The fire department continues to investigate the cause of the fire but so far has not found anything pointing specifically to arson. Still, we are told police have three persons detained for questioning.

But the most pressing issue right now is the care for those two child burn victims - who suffered a setback tonight: because of Hurricane Matthew, the US based Air Ambulance which was supposed to come for them has been placed on hold in Texas. Hopefully, it can be released to come and pick them up tomorrow. We'll keep following it.
