Herrera On Trial For Zeke’s Murder
posted (October 6, 2016)
Charles "Bundy" Herrera is on trial for killing Ezekiel Medina in May of 2014. But the case has been going through a trial within a trial to determine whether a confession statement given by Herrera is admissible. Herrera took the witness stand and testified that the reason he gave the statement was because he thought that the DPP would not have charged him with murder. The grounds on which the caution statement was not admitted as evidence was that Herrera was taken to the police station at 7 in the morning and up until the time he gave the statement, which was about 12:45 p.m., he had not been fed or given any kind of refreshment. Justice Gonzalez was of the view that based on case law, this denial would have sapped the free will of Herrera, making the statement in admissible.

Herrera is accused of stabbing Medina to death in May of 2014. According to reports, Medina had broken into a vehicle belonging to Herrera and an altercation ensued between Herrera and Medina during which Medina was stabbed 3 times.

Herrera is being represented by attorney Christelle Wilson while the Crown is being represented by Crown Counsel Rene Montero. The trial will continue on Wednesday, October 12.
