Northside Cops Get Props
posted (October 18, 2016)
Today at the Queen Street Police station in Belize City, two police officers were given awards for outstanding performance during the months of August and September. Constable Andrews and Special Constable Bevans were given certificates and plaques to commemorate their achievements, and they spoke to the media about what the awards mean to them...

SC Hpesoj Bevans - Officer of the Month, September
"I love meeting people, dealing with people, helping people because in this line of duty we are supposed to protect and preserve life and property. And I take that very seriously as I got about my beat every day. And it takes determination, dedication, desire and discipline to do all these things. Like the Apostle Paul says, I have fought the good fight, I have kept my faith, I have kept my course, what it thought for me is the crown of righteousness which the lord my God has prepared for me. For you to win the prize, you must run the race, and that's exactly what I do every day in my work. I work so that one day my boss can recognize my good work like that they did today and I really appreciate it, it makes me want to strive and work harder, that one day maybe if God permits I might be wearing stripes on my shoulder."

Constable Sharlett Andrews - Officer of the Month, August
"Well I must say, I highly appreciate the award, simply because I know that I am a very hard working person. From day 1, since I've been in the job 17 years now, I have been working hard. For Tourism Police, which was 8 years, I have been working hard. I used to work with Ms. Phillips, she knows me that I am a very hard worker, and now I am at Prosecution Branch I work even harder because I deal with most criminals."

"Now, what are some of perhaps the challenges that you encounter daily and how do you deal with them?"

Constable Sharlett Andrews - Officer of the Month, August
"Well, like I said, working at the court, I am working with criminals. It's very hard because I am talking about people who are on remand for murder, who get convicted for murder, still going to court. It's very hard working with these people, but I believe understanding is all. I try my best to work with them and to be nice to them because they're human beings, so I try."
