BNTU Asks For Clarity
posted (November 3, 2016)
But it looks like the most important thing right now is clarity. That's because there's some ambiguity. The Minister says that teachers will be paid for extra make up days - but he has not established clearly if that would offset the loss in earning from the strike. He has also not established how lost time in the classroom will be made up. The BNTU explained why these issues have to be clarified.

Luke Palacio, President - BNTU
"We are not clear whether they are saying that they are going to pay the teachers for those 11 days. What the minister had said resoundingly and it's in the news that they are going to deduct the 11 days at the end of November. This is not yet clear to us. So are they saying we are not going to deduct? And then when you make up the time in the January and Easter break that they are talking about, are they going to give additional compensation? That is not clear and that is why I think Mr. Frazer has made the point that the ministry seems to be playing a game and hoping that people will continue to become confused and try to go against the teachers. The position remains absolutely clear, we were prepared, we are still prepared to make up the time. That, we continue to insist is the purview of the management and the teachers to meet and settle this thing once and for all."

The BNTU council will meet on Saturday to decide on its next move.
