“Monchi” Going After “Gapi” For Land Scandal
posted (November 9, 2016)

And while Minister Boots brushed that one off, another Minister who got into big trouble for his son’s dealings in his ministry is Gaspar Vega.  We’ve reported extensively on the almost half a million dollar compensation payout to Andre Vega – money which government is now demanding that he pay back by the end of this month.  And Vega’s opponent in Orange Walk Monchi Cervantez wants to penalize him for it.  Cervantez is floating an idea to bring charges against Vega for violating the corruption in public life act.  Now usually, only the Police and the DPP have standing to bring criminal charges against anyone, but, undaunted, Monchie went to said Musa’s office today asking advice. When he came out of that meeting, he seemed determined if slightly in doubt that it can be done:…

Ramon "Monchi" Cervantes - PUP Standard Bearer, OW North
"My intention to bring criminal charges against Gapi Vega the former Deputy Prime Minister, former Minister of Lands and Natural Resources for crimes committed against the people of Belize. I think you know all the scandals under the prevention of corruption act of 2007. Specifically what we are looking for is indictment in the criminal matters we are looking for an indictment of former minister Vega. We are looking for an indictment specifically I really don't know that is up to the lawyers."

"How do you respond to critics who would write this off as you seeking political mileage out of an already scandalous situation?"

Ramon "Monchi" Cervantes - PUP Standard Bearer, OW North
"Well if the mileage comes it comes on its own but I as a private citizen I see it is a duty, it is my duty."

Reporter
"Did Mr. Musa as an attorney advise what charges Mr. Vega could face if he would be found guilty?"

Ramon "Monchi" Cervantes - PUP Standard Bearer, OW North
"Like I said the meeting was very preliminary at this point."

The PUP is considering bringing its own misfeasance suit against Vega.
