The Auditor General And Those Aggrieved Citizens
posted (November 10, 2016)
Last night, we gave you extensive coverage of the first day into the Senate Hearings on Immigration. That's when Auditor General Dorothy Bradley answered her summons from the Senate to give testimony on her audit reports which exposes mass irregularities in the Immigration and Nationality Department.

That gave us the opportunity to also get an interview, which was her first since her reports became part of the public record. As you saw, she acknowledged that she erroneously printed House Speaker Mike Peyrefitte's name in her reports, and so when we had the opportunity, we asked her about other persons who want their names cleared as well..

We're referring to those ordinary citizens who she named as persons who received recommendations from Ministers. when they didn't need any such recommendations to apply for their immigration documents. They're sort of like examples of persons who the Auditor General used to show the culture of Ministers recommending persons, when the regulations don't require that. But, as you are aware, everyone is clamoring to be taken out those reports, for fear of being labelled as some sort of wrongdoer.

So, we asked the Auditor General about those citizens who would their names taken out, and she said that she was not accusing them of anything:

Daniel Ortiz, 7News
"There are persons who feel aggrieved by having their names just mentioned who are just citizens of the country. Should they worry that when they go for their documents that the immigration department may reject it simply because of their names showing up in your audit reports as examples of persons who received these recommendations?"

Dorothy Bradley - Auditor General
"Except for Mr. Peyrefitte's situation. Those are my findings; they are not implicating those people. Our audit is simply auditing the immigration department and what we have found contradicts some of what the regulation is saying. By extension, those names are simply findings so I don't have any explanation. I'm not sure what it is these people really expect but the truth is that I am simply putting what I find."

The Auditor General will be called back at a later date to be decided, and the Senate Select Committee will ask her to provide certain additional information on her reports.
