Late Evening Shooting Ends In Tragedy
posted (November 11, 2016)
There was a shooting just before 5 o'clock this evening in Belize City, which has hospitalized an adult and a minor in who are cousins. It happened on Daily Street when the two were reportedly heading to the shop to purchase some items. They were on bike, and as they rode by they were gunned down by still unknown assailants.

Our news team was on the scene shortly after the incident, and that's where we managed to get an interview with Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, the Officer Commanding Eastern Division's Criminal Investigation Branch. He shared what information he was able to with us:

Reporter
"Can you begin by sharing with us some details with regards to the alleged shooting incident that happened here on Daly Street?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Officer Commanding CIB
"Sometime after 4:30pm, CIB personnel received information of shots fired on Daly Street. So they proceeded to the KHMH where they observed 2 persons suffering with apparent gunshot wounds; an adult and a minor. Present at the scene here we found 6 expended shells and a vehicle that was parked on the road was also damaged."

Reporter
"In terms of your preliminary investigations, what is being revealed at this particular point in time?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Officer Commanding CIB
"At this time that all the information I can give you as the other information that we have need to be passed on first with the family."

Reporter
"Any motive, any preliminary information in so far as why they would have been targeted?"

ASP Alejandro Cowo, Officer Commanding CIB
"At this time I cannot give you any further information."

Our news team approached the family at the KHMH just before the start of the news, and they informed us that the child has passed and they told us that his older cousin is in a critical condition. The doctors tried to save the boy's life, but the injuries were too severe. We have learnt the identities of the two victims, but we will not release them until we are sure that all their family members have been notified.
