Alleged Child Killer Charged
posted (November 15, 2016)
Last night, we brought you extensive coverage of the tragic story of 7 year-old Tyler Savery. He's the child who was gunned down in the street-style execution of his older cousin, 22 year-old Porshan Pipersburg. Both of them were killed, and the loss to this family was even more grievous because a child was killed in an adults' street war.

Well, the man who police believe was the gunman is 20 year-old Jayear Flores, a resident of Curassow Street, and tonight, he's at the Belize Central Prison. You'll notice Flores in this footage as the man in the striped red shirt who tried his best to hide his face from the cameras while he was being escorted to the Magistrates Court a few hours ago. He was arraigned this evening before Magistrate Carlon Mendoza on two counts of murder, and because those are capital offences, no plea was taken from him, and neither could he be granted bail. He was remanded to the Belize Central Prison until January 16, 2017.

As we reported, Porshan Pipersburgh was taking his little cousin, Tyler Savery, to Moon Clusters Cafe on Daily Street. They were heading there to get Tyler a milkshake, his favorite Friday treat. Pipersburg was riding a bicycle, while Tyler was on the handle, and they were just a few feet away from the Moon Cluster's entrance when a white 4-door car drove up, and one of the occupants opened fire on them. Pipersburgh was most likely the target of the attack, but Tyler was shot in the chest, and he died on the spot. Pipersburgh was hit twice in the chest, and survived for 24 hours, but succumbed to his injuries on Saturday.

This family has lost 4 males to gun violence. In September 2014, John Avilez and his nephew Leon Savery were gunned down. Avilez died hours after that shooting, and Savery passed away about a month later due to medical complications. Then, it was last Friday evening's execution attempt which claimed the life of Leon Savery's only son, Tyler, and his nephew Porshan Pipersburgh.
