Looking Into The Face Of Your Son’s (Alleged) Killer
posted (November 15, 2016)
Tyler Savery's mother, Shakera Young, no doubt had viewers transfixed with her very powerful interview, displaying vulnerability, strength, and fortitude in the face of such loss, which normally overcomes other grief stricken mothers.

Today, she dutifully attended court, and observed Jayear Flores, the man who is accused of killing her son. After the arraignment, she told us that putting a face to the alleged killer only aroused sorrow for this young man and his family. Here's what she had to say:

Shakera Young - Mother of Tyler Savery
"I'm still a bit lost for words because to me that young man is still a child himself for him to have don't something like that to my little boy. I'm still a bit disgruntle about it because I only see one person in there and I do believe that was somebody driving and if he's the shooter then somebody else is involved in that. At this point right now what the police are telling me, I am holding on to that and hoping that justice will be served the right way. This young man now goes behind bars until January and my heart goes out to his family because he won't spend Christmas at home. My son won't spend Christmas with me. I looked at his mother a while ago and I could see pain in his mother's face. I sat in the court and I couldn't even cry, I guess maybe I should have felt angry at this young man, maybe I thought that if I saw him I would have wanted to do something bad to this young man, but I don't feel anything towards him. I think that I am at peace, I have a little of bit of closure now, but I'm still not fully satisfied. As I sat this afternoon and I spoke to Ms. Philips at the police station, I told her that I think this is definitely a divine intervention here, because normally we wouldn't have any sort of witness or anybody coming forward and this is something where I am actually amazed and I know that I serve a great God."

"Does it in any way ease your burden that the police have made such a quick arrest?"

Shakera Young - Mother of Tyler Savery
"It does yes, but I do see at times these cases tend to crumble very fast because most of the time the witnesses fear their lives and they are definitely people that will be there to hinder them from being testimonies in regards to these cases. But I still have hope that something will turn out, because like I said this is a divine intervention. So it will work out. If it doesn't and that young man comes out and proven innocent, then that killer is out there somewhere. God sees and knows everything and he cannot hide from it."

We had an opportunity to speak with Jayear Flores's mother, and though she didn't want to grant an interview, she asserted that her son is innocent. Her primary reason for refusing to speak publicly, she told us, is that she fears that she will be cast as another mother making excuses for a wayward child that is a young criminal. She told us that she fears violent retaliation against her and her other children because her son is accused.

Interestingly, the charge reads that Jayear Flores and others committed these crimes.
