As we have reported, according to the SATIIM reports, the Guatemalan military personnel stopped them and warned them that the Sarstoon River is a military zone, and that according to some still mysterious protocol, anyone who needed to travel the river had to get permission from the Guatemalan military, which is based at the mouth of the Sarstoon.
Well, the Belize Defence Force has confirmed that SATIIM made the very same report to them, and they will seek clarification from their Guatemalan counterparts.
A press release from the Ministry of Defense says, quote, "The Belize Defence Force (BDF) received a report on an incident that occurred on November 10th 2016, in which… (SATIIM) was interrupted by Guatemalan Armed Forces while operating on the Sarstoon River… Belizean authorities are following up with Guatemalan counterparts to get clarification on this recent incident in the Sarstoon."
