Spanish Lookout Looking Out , Not In
posted (November 16, 2016)

Yesterday afternoon, the Spanish Lookout business community handed over a new pickup truck to Cayo Police.  Now, one pickup isn’t all that big a story, but it is in this case, because it marks a Sea Change for the usually insular and self-sufficient Spanish Lookout community.  They accept that in a changing criminal landscape, where their open way of life makes them vulnerable, they do need the police:..

Norman Dueck - Spanish Lookout Chamber
"And I am proud to say that when the idea was presented at our meeting, 100% of the people supported the idea of partnering with the police department. I think that shows that we believe that this is a partnership. I think we know that policing only works when police and the community works together."

Hon. Elodio Aragon - Minister of State - Police
"It's not every day we go a community and find a community that is willing to work with the police department like this. Your donation of a vehicle people might say well it's one vehicle but it's one vehicle more that the police department can put to good use."

Allen Whylie - Commissioner of Police
"When a community, especially the Spanish Lookout Community wants to partner with their police; especially in the area of transportation which is a very critical resource that we are in need of. We cannot lose those sort of opportunity."

The vehicle will be assigned to the Cayo Rural West Formation which is responsible for 17 villages around the San Ignacio Area. It’s the largest formation in the country covering more than 38 communities spread over a vast area.
