Gales Point Aggravated Burglary Has Evidence, But No Report
posted (November 17, 2016)
This morning Belize Rural police received a report of a European couple allegedly tied up and robbed by four armed men in Gales Point, Manatee. Now Manatee falls within Dangriga jurisdiction but their vehicle, a Jeep Patriot with Stann Creek License plates was also stolen, and that was found abandoned this morning in Belize Rural on the Boom-Hattieville road near the Kolbe Prison. Hattieville police told us more:...

Cpl. Ian Geban, Hattieville Police
"We were waiting for the vehicle to the transported and processed by the Hattieville Police Station and information was relayed via WhatsApp, the police communication network and shortly afterwards the owner visited the station after he was informed that his vehicle was located. He made a verbal report to the station that he was kidnapped."

"Information is sketchy at this time and we are in the process of transporting the vehicle to be processed and we are working on the investigation at this time. There is not lot of information in relation to this report."

Jules Vasquez, 7News
"Are you all hopeful that you'd be able to lift some fingerprints from the vehicle?"

Cpl. Ian Geban, Hattieville Police
"Definitely, the vehicle was treated as a crime scene from the time we received the information. So it is under control environment where it will be transported and processed fully by the Scenes of Crime personnel's."

Reporter
"Maybe not the identity of the individuals who say they were kidnapped, but age, nationality - anything you could share in relation to them."

Cpl. Ian Geban, Hattieville Police
"Well, as far as I can go, these are individuals not from Belize. Not sure of the nationality, but they are not from Belize."

Reporter
"But they live here?"

Cpl. Ian Geban, Hattieville Police
"Yes, they live in Belize."

"From the time the person came to make the report, I observed that he appeared to be traumatized. So I believe the report to be genuine."

The couple explained to Hattieville police that they would be back after picking up someone at the airport. But they never returned to Hattieville to make that statement - and they haven't made the report in Dangriga either. So, right now, police aren't treating the report as anything other than a stolen vehicle which remains impounded at HattievIlle.
