Days Of Grace Are Here Again For Primary School
posted (May 10, 2017)

In September, 120 Grace Primary School students will be sitting in their new classrooms on Fabers Road. The old building on Amara Avenue was overrun with 480 students.  And so, now, the kids and teachers will finally be able have more breathing space, and running space after the new 3750 square foot school building was officially opened today on Faber's Road. Courtney Weatherburne was there for the ceremony and has the details .

From this wooden structure erected for the ground breaking in August 2016 - to the fully completed 4 classroom building.

Morna Sheppard - Principal, Grace Primary School
"It has been a long time over 20 years."

That is how long these kids and their teachers have waited for this much needed upgrade; one that will ease the overcrowding at the school on Amara Avenue.

Morna Sheppard
"It is extremely cramped this will only alleviate a portion of the problem that we are having, we always have to be turning people back when it is registration time for new intake."

That won’t be much of a problem now with these 4 classrooms that will be the two Standard 5 and two Standard 6 classes. But that means there needs to be more expansion later on.

Morna Sheppard
"This year we have gone ahead and taken some addition children so we need to have more buildings in the next 4, 5 years’ time to accommodate those children we are taking in this year."

But for now, the kids are rejoicing with their new classrooms.

Only the finishing touches are left and those are filling the yard and building a fence. This project was funded by the Government in collaboration with the Belize Social Investment fund and the Parent-Teachers Association to a total cost of seven hundred and twenty five thousand dollars ($725,00.00). Â It’s a loan from the CDB with counterpart funding from Government, while the PTA contributed approximately $50,000.00 as counterpart funding for landfill, a kitchen facility and monitoring during construction.
