Faber Won't Speculate On reason For Visa Cancellation
posted (May 31, 2017)

Deputy Prime Minister Patrick Faber wasn’t so cautious - but he stressed that no reason was given for the cancellation, and he wouldn't speculate on what that reason might be.

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister
"I think the optics of it is never desirous, I don't know the circumstances of those cancellations to be honest. I have not had any discussions with anybody from the US government to say that it is not what he has said, I have no proof of that, I have no such understanding."

Jules Vasquez
"We know that he has been publicly accused of accepting 2,000 dollars per visa recommendation. Are you concerned that there are other in your government who also gave a number of visa recommendations and that there may be other cancellations?"

Hon. Patrick Faber
"Well you know what our position is on this, what we've said time and time again is the case, there are people who come to us as a representative for recommendations for all sorts of things. It is not a practice that I have done, I don't think I have sent any recommendations but that is just my choice that is just how I operate. People will tell you as well I don't go to the land's department because that's just how I operate. I try to stay clear of that, other of my colleagues they go beyond that to try to help people but that does not mean that there is anything illegal happening and you have to within your own conscience know when it is that you shouldn't cross a line and that is how I have been able to stay."

Jules Vasquez
"But at some point sir and we've gone over this so many times, it becomes indicative or suggestive that there is an enterprise at hand of you have filled out - the prime minister said it himself, 10 applications or 10 recommendations but you’re going to 20, you’re going to 30, you’re going to 40 it is suggestive that there is an enterprise."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"If that is the case then investigations need to happen in that regard."

Jules Vasquez
"Is this not an indictment by the United States that there has been corrupt practices in the government that you are the deputy prime minister of as so far as in when it happened to Max Samuels way back in the early 2000s, 2003 there about, the UDP was the first to jump on it and say see it there, Uncle Sam has said that the PUP is corrupt and they pull Max Samuels visa because of that."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"It is very crafty of you but you've asked me and I've said I cannot determine, I have no evidence to say that what your purporting to be the case, is the case. The US government has sent no documentation or ask for any kind of sit down with anybody in our government to say this is why we've cancelled the visa of Minister Castro, his tourist visa and his diplomatic visa - no it cannot be, there might be a number of reasons why."

Jules Vasquez
"He took a lady to trail and she testified under oath in court and he lost the case, he testified that he took money."

Hon. Patrick Faber
"That may well be the case but it is not documented, it is not written in stone that is what the US government is accusing him of. Like you we could speculate, a lot of speculation can be had but I can't go on the record and say that any of this is the case because we simply don't know and that would be irresponsible of me."
