Faber says Belize/US Relations Fine
posted (May 31, 2017)

And so while Faber says he wouldn't have done it - that’s the same thing the US Embassy suggested in a statement to the Reporter Newspaper. They said that the vessels they donated should be used for security purposes and drug interdiction.  We asked the Deputy Prime Minister if the statement is indicative of a deeper rift in Belize/US relations:…

Jules Vasquez
"Isn't it perhaps indicative of the fact that the Americans are not pleased with your government? They've cancelled Mr. Castro's visa, they've made publicly known their unhappiness or displeasure with the use of these - perhaps innocuous use of these coast guard vessels. Isn't it..."

Hon. Patrick Faber - Deputy Prime Minister
"Very dangerous waters, waters that I certainly don't want to thread on. There are many positive things are happening with the US government in this country and there are very good partnerships with the US government and aspects of world government. If we follow your reasoning and your logic it would seem that the US government is raining down wrath on this government and that is absolutely not the case so I prefer not to go down that road, there are many positive things happening."
