Senate Hearings Went Smoothly With Extra Security
posted (May 31, 2017)

Going back now to the Senate hearings, we’ve already shown you quite a lot from today’s Senate Inquiry.  But we didn't tell you how it went when compared to the last session two weeks ago which devolved into disorder.

Well, the hearings went off without incident today. But it didn’t just happen on its own.   All entrances and exits of the National Assembly building were flooded with police security, and they were instructed to kick out anyone who was disturbing the proceedings. At the beginning of the hearings, Chairman Aldo Salazar made it clear, that everyone needed to behave, or else…

Hon. Aldo Salazar- Chairman, Senate Select Committee
“The unfolding of events at our last hearing, which caused the disruption of our serious work, such behaviour is not to be permitted and deserving of censure. We must, on both sides, allow our collective conscious to arrest this downward spiral into incivility, after all the majority of our people view such actions as unpalatable. Having said this, I now wish to say that although as chairman I may not be able to direct the direction of this inquiry, I do have full control of the proceedings in this chamber and I'm fully aware that any deviation from the highest standards of behaviour will reflect negatively on me. I am the person who is to take responsibility for what happens in here and I will not allow anybody to give others further opportunity to sully my efforts in this inquiry. Many may take it for granted but all of us here in this committee, all of us involved, have put significant days and many many hours of hard work and I will not allow that hard work to be stained. As such, I hereby give fair warning that it is my view that each senator is absolutely entitled to be heard in this chamber in silence and it is my intention to ensure that this prevails. I will not hesitate to clear this entire gallery if the occasion requires it.â€￾
