Last week the Festival of the Arts started off with a lot of energy on the BTL Park stage. And all this week we've been airing the morning showcases of the best young talent live on Channel 7. We've seen elaborate performances from students all over the country, but the format and theme of the festival wasn't always like it is now - like everything else there is a history or a story behind it. And today at the 2nd Annual Vernon Leslie Memorial Lecture at the Bliss - panelists discussed the historical context of the Festival of the Arts going way back to when it all started in 1953. One of the panelists Leroy Green gave us more background.
The Festival of Arts was initiated by Mr. Vernon Leslie in 1953. The topic was : the Festival of Arts - Pre-Independence, The Revival and Where we are now.
