The family of Canadian Francesca Matus has spoken out for the first time. Matus’s relative gave 7News and exclusive interview via phone this evening. As you all will remember Matus and her boyfriend Drew Devoursey were strangled to death and their bodies were found thrown in a cane field in Chan Chen, Corozal. Here is what Matus’s family in Canada had to say today. They preferred to not mention their names .

“You would think that the police would be the first people to contact the families but before I was even notified, it was all over Facebook, it’s the part that I don’t understand how it all gets out, apparently a bunch of people were at the crime scene and everything and then next thing everyone knows before the family knows which was kind of disappointing. Some friends of mine were texting me and so on saying did you hear is this true and I’m like what are you talking about? And then they said they found the bodies, I was obviously shocked. There’s no known altercation, she was well liked by everyone there. I didn’t know Drew but from every one that I talked to, his sources everyone liked him too so nothing about altercations at that I’m aware of.â€￾

“Now this guy John Deshais right, do you know him are you familiar with him? He was named the lead suspect in this double murder.â€￾

“I only met him for the first time through phone after this had happened.â€￾

“Okay so you communicated with John?â€￾

“Absolutely, when she went missing he called me, he got a hold of me and he was explaining how he and a bunch of her friends were going to be doing a search the following day in cane fields back roads and everything like that so I did speak to John that he organised getting these planes to do search over Corozal because he had a contact with a pilot. When I spoke to Francesca, she never had anything bad to say about John, not once and if it there was anything negative she would have told the family.â€￾

“Do you believe John when he says that he wasn’t involved and he has no idea who killed Francesca and Drew?â€￾

“Yes I believe that he had nothing to do with it, I appreciate all the hard work that the Corozal Police has done in the search and everything but I feel they have not communicated well with the family.â€￾

Matus’s family also commented on today’s discovery of the bodies of couple Zeidy Orozco and Baltazar Lopez â€" the similarities in both double murders is eerie.

“For a town that before this happened is seen to be a peaceful nice place to be all of a sudden within one month or just over a month we have four people that have murdered in similar ways, cars in cane fields and bodies found, I wasn’t aware of bodies that were found yet but I was covering, I was keeping up with that story so that I wanted to know what would happen with the couple; unfortunately they succumbed to the same outcome as Francesca and Drew.â€￾
