Police “Baffled” By Jerson Carballo Murder
posted (June 7, 2017)

Turning now to police news, Southside cops are no closer to finding a motive for the murder of 27 year old Jerson Carballo.  Today the Southside commander admitted that they are baffled by the circumstances of the case:…

ACP Chester Williams - OC, Eastern South Division
"Well the truth is that Mr. Carballo death still has us a bit baffled in the sense that we have not been able to ascertain a motive and the reason for that is because he's not known to the police either from a gang point of view or other crime. We are currently looking for two persons, we know who they are and we're hoping that we will be able to catch up with them very shortly. I met with the family this morning and I gave them our assurance that the police will do what we can do to solve this latest homicide. We know the difficulties that we normally encounter when it comes to investigating homicides in Belize City and that is the fact that people are hesitant to speak or to give statements to the police and in most cases you find our investigation ends because we are unable to get statements so we will see where this one takes us. We are hoping that we can make an arrest and bring some degree of closure to the family."

"Have you been able to completely rule out robbery?"

ACP Chester Williams
"Yes we have ruled out robbery or any crime that one may want to think he was committing."

"This is a very perplexing situation in terms of you have this very unassuming church going person being murdered on the streets of Belize early in the morning. Should residence in the community be concerned about going late in the night and will the police up patrols in this area?"

ACP Chester Williams
"Well the police presence in the St. Martins area is very high, it is one of the areas on Southside we have the most patrols and just from our meet and greet today people are echoing their satisfaction with the presence of the police and I don't think there is any cause of concern where security is concerned because the police presence is out there and while yes Mr. Carballo's death was unfortunate, I do believe that those persons who took his life were after him; for what reason we don't know and that is what we want to find out."
