Security Guard Shot For His Weapon
posted (June 9, 2017)
Tonight a security guard is recovering from life saving surgery after he was shot last night by thugs who wanted his weapon. It happened just before 9:00, in Belize City on Police Street. 50 year old John Hoare was on duty when two men walked up, and one of them opened fire. After shooting shooting him in the chest, they stole his loaded 9 millimeter firearm and ran off into the night.

I spoke to his family today at the hospital and they updated me on his condition - saying, off camera, that his prognosis is encouraging and they need blood:..

Voice of: Wife
"A female CIB officer called me and told me that she was call just to tell me that they shot my husband."

"That they killed him, that is what I thought that they killed him but when I came to hospital they gave me his clothes and I saw him with the bullet holes in his back and I said they killed my husband but when a nurse came they told me that he is okay and when I went in they allowed me to go in and see him and my husband told me "Love everything will be okay". And I got happy because he looked good, he didn't look critical, nothing, he looked good, so I told him in the name of God love you will leave here okay and they told me they would operate on him and thank God everything came out good in the operation the only thing I need right now is blood, the type of blood, urgently so he can recuperate."

Hoare needs "A-" blood. If you want to help, you can call 666-8438. Hoare has been a security guard for at that location for a year. He was on shift until 7:00 the next morning.

Police are investigating the case as a robbery and attempted murder. And there's one more element, they say he was shot with a high powered weapon, a .45 pistol, which is a prohibited firearm - the same kind that was used to kill Jerson Carballo earlier this week. Sergeant. Roberto Novelo explained that Hoare was guarding some slot machines:

Sgt. Roberto Novelo, CIB - Precinct 2
"Mr. Hoare was guarding some slot machines on Police Street and that time he was approach by 2 dark complexion male persons, one armed with a firearm who fired a shot at him and thereafter stole a 9mm pistol from him property of the security company."

"So robbery was the motive of this crime?"

Sgt. Roberto Novelo, CIB - Precinct 2
"Certainly robbery was the motive for the gun."

Reporter
"He was shot several times, can you say how many times he was hit?"

Sgt. Roberto Novelo, CIB - Precinct 2
"He was only hit once in the chest. We found 3 .45 expended shells at the scene."

Reporter
"Interestingly I believe the last murder that occurred earlier this week in that area, it was also a .45 that was used in that crime. Have you guys been able to ascertain whether it was the same firearm that was used in this crime?"

Sgt. Roberto Novelo, CIB - Precinct 2
"No, we have not ascertain if that it is the same firearm. However we believe it is a possibility it could be the same firearm."

So far police have no one detained.
